UK wins Party Poker Nations Cup

15th April, 2008

Team Great Britain has won the 2008 Party Poker Nations Cup, beating off stiff competition from Ireland in a tense heads-up final.

The televised tournament saw six nations battling it out in a series of heats, with Germany being touted as the favourites by PartyBets. Other competing nations included America, Ireland, Sweden and the Netherlands.

UK captain Rolande de Wolfe said he was "absolutely delighted" with the win, adding: "In many ways it is even better to win a team event for your country than win an individual title".

Poker pro Neil Channing was the man who sealed the victory for England, fending off the valiant efforts of the Ireland's Donnacha O'Dea to bag the $100,000 (£50,000) grand prize for his team.

"I am as proud of this as I am of my win in Ireland," Channing commented. "It was an honour to be picked to represent my country and great to be chosen to play the crucial final leg for the team."

The last time Great Britain won the Party Poker Nations cup was in 2006.
