Poker Table Goes Green

2nd June, 2008

It’s a big challenge to live in a world where you know you can’t please everyone but everyone expects you to. And it’s an even bigger challenge to run a business in that same hard to please world. Every move the big businesses make usually attract protesters all around. Please one and you can be sure that the other group will be knocking on your door the next minute. But amazingly, the poker industry has risen to this challenge and managed to do something to please one of the most hard-to-please groups in the planet: the Environmentalists.

At this year’s World Series of Poker, the world’s first ever ‘Green Poker Table’ will make its debut. The table is not called ‘green’ for nothing. Not only is it literally green, it’s also eco friendly. The tables are made from 98% sustainable materials. All the wood used for making it is certified by the Foresty Stewardship Council, so you can be sure that Gaea isn’t screaming vengeance just because you wanted to have a poker table to play on. The paints and stains that were used in decorating the table are al formaldehyde free so you’re not contributing to global warming or doing something evil like that. Even the adhesives used in assembling the table are water-based so there’s no harm at all in using the whole thing. At the very least, you won’t be playing on one big ‘sin’, that’s for sure. By playing poker on the Green Poker Table, you’re even doing a good thing by advocating the use of eco-friendly materials. I wouldn’t be surprised if a squirrel smiles at you on the way home from playing eco-friendly poker.

The manufacturer of this outstanding table is EGM Green, a company from New Jersey. And they have announced that they will give one of the tables to the winner of this year’s World Series of Poker. The quest of this noble company is to bring eco-friendly products to the high speed world of luxury. Instead of using just any materials, EGM Green encourages all the casinos to use eco-friendly ones.

What’s good about this is that the casinos can finally do their business in such a way that’s not so offensive to everyone else out there. Now, these casinos and everyone else who plays poker can finally play without having the whole world peering over their shoulders, or at least, not the environmentalists, anyway.
