GSN's option for WPT expires
9th June, 2008
Announced by WPT Enterprises, the Game Show Network's option to claim the exclusive rights to broadcast the entire seventh season of the World Poker Tour expired on Saturday
David Goldhill, GSN CEO, expressed that the WPT has been good for the GSN network and that there may be parts of season seven broadcast on GSN.
“The World Poker Tour has been a great partner and the show continues to perform strongly on our network," Goldhill said. "We are continuing discussions with WPTE regarding how we may be able to work together – including perhaps broadcasting parts of Season VII.”
Steve Lipscomb, the founder, president and CEO of the WPT, implied that this is only the beginning of a bright future in store for the WPT. WPTE is currently talking with many major networks about airing programming from its seventh season.
“We have enjoyed watching the show and our numbers grow on GSN. Our hope is that we can find ways to collaborate with the network long into the future,” Lipscomb said “This may allow us the first opportunity to explore diversifying content on multiple networks like most sports leagues. We have already begun those discussions and look forward to making another season of the best and most widely distributed poker programming in the world to our dedicated viewers and fans.”
The current season of the WPT will continue to air on GSN through late August, broadcast on Monday nights at 9p.m. ET/PT.
