Full Tilt expands heads-up championship

20th May, 2008

Online gaming operator Full Tilt has doubled the number of budding poker enthusiasts eligible to take part in its hotly-anticipated Heads-Up Championship.

While anyone can sign up for the event, the record-high buy-in price of $25,000 (£12,500) - which makes it the world's most expensive online tournament - had been expected to keep entry numbers low.

But with the buzz that has accompanied the monster event since it was announced, a flurry of professional poker players have been lining up to take part.

A maximum number of 128 participants can now sign up to the tournament - which starts next week - after the initial 64 slots sold out within days of having been unveiled.

However, in an unusual twist the operator has also confirmed that if the extra seats fail to be occupied, it will then revoke newly-admitted participants and slash the original player count back down to 64.

Last week, Full Tilt dished out over $5 million in cash prizes at two of its largest flagship tournaments - the $2,500 buy-in Deepstacked Event and the $500 Main Event.
