Big win at WSOP for Vancouver man
11th June, 2008
First prize of event 13 of the World Series of Poker was $666,777, which was taken home by a man from Vancouver, Duncan (Pumper) Bell.
Winning his first WSOP bracelet, Bell outlasted over a thousand players in the $2,500 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em tournament.
“It was just a combination of a bunch of things going my way,” Bell said.
The last hand of the tournament Bell woke up with a pocket pair of aces, which ended up being the hand that won him the bracelet.
“I looked down and I saw two beautiful black aces,” Bell said.
After winning the tournament, Bell ended up spending $5,000 celebrating, which he described as “under control” considering how most people do it in the poker world.
“After a couple of years, players really started to push back at me, and forced me to be a much better player and in doing so allowed me to dominate the cash games in Las Vegas, which are weaker than the cash games in Vancouver,” Bell said.
Bell believes that Vancouver deserves the credit for making him such a better poker player, and he is the fourth person from Vancouver to win this year at the World Series.
“Vancouver poker players are great poker players. And this victory for me, although personally fantastic, is really a credit to the intelligence, and the drive, and just the boom of poker in Vancouver,” Bell said.
