Annie Duke out with injury
10th June, 2008
Annie Duke, poker professional, is recovering from a running injury that will keep her out of the World Series Of Poker in 2008, at least for the first week.
Duke, who suffered a fractured pelvis while running a 16-mile marathon, told the whole story on her blog.
“About two months ago I was doing a 16 mile run and I developed a pretty sharp pain in my pelvic floor around mile 11,” Duke writes. “Of course, because I am an idiot, I kept running till mile 16. Well, that night I had a lot of trouble walking. In fact, I really couldn’t walk. So I rested it for a week and then went out to run again and around mile 3 I had to stop and limp home. By that night I could not put any weight on my right leg. But did I go to the doctor? Oh, no! Of course not.”
Duke went on to explain the results of her x-ray, which was not expected to turn anything up until an MRI could be administered.
“He did an x-ray and basically said well I don’t think we will see anything on this x-ray because stress fractures usually only show up on MRI’s,” Duke writes. “But he did the x-ray and there it was, clear as day, a pretty bad fracture. So now I am going in for an MRI just to see what is really going on.”
Later in her blog, the poker professional shared the surprising results of her MRI.
Duke writes: “holy crap! Just got the results back from the MRI I had on Monday and I fractured my damn pelvis in three places, not just one! One is a true fracture and the other two are stress fractures. I am one stupid chick running on a pelvis fractured in three places. Man oh man. So now it is just rest rest rest.”
